Appraisal disclaimer: Heirly is an antique and collectible identification tool. Its value estimates are informational only, generated by an AI model from photos and any details you provide. They are not a professional appraisal, insurance valuation, or authentication, and should not be relied on as one — consult a qualified professional appraiser for items of significant value.
Heirly is designed around a simple principle: your collection belongs on your device, not on our servers. Heirly has no user accounts and no server-side database of your collection. Every item you save — its photos, identification, value range, and notes — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. We do not have a copy of this data.
Our backend is a stateless AI proxy. When you request an appraisal, the photos and details you provide for that specific item are sent to our server, forwarded to our AI provider for appraisal, and the response is returned to your device. Photos are sent to our AI provider for appraisal purposes only — they are not stored on our servers. Requests are held in an in-process cache for up to 24 hours purely to avoid duplicate AI calls for an identical request, and that cache is wiped whenever the server restarts. We do not maintain a database of your requests, their photos, or their contents.
The following data is collected and stored exclusively on your device, and is never transmitted to our servers except as described below when you request an appraisal:
When you request an appraisal for an item, Heirly sends the photos of that item, along with any details you've entered (dimensions, weight, provenance, condition, condition notes, and any correction you provide), to our backend. Our backend forwards this to our AI provider (OpenAI) to generate the identification and value estimate, and returns the result to your device. These photos and details are used only to generate that one appraisal response — they are not stored server-side, not used to train any model, and not linked to any account, because Heirly has no accounts. The request is briefly cached in-process (up to 24 hours, in memory only) to avoid re-charging you for an identical repeat request, then discarded; this cache is also wiped on every server restart.
If you choose to view comparable listings for an item, Heirly sends search terms derived from the appraisal (not your photos) to our backend, which queries eBay's Browse API for current listings and returns the results, including affiliate links via the eBay Partner Network. We do not store these queries or results server-side.
Heirly may use standard mobile analytics to understand product usage and measure funnels. Analytics data does not include your collection data, item photos, or appraisal contents.
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to prevent fraud or protect the security of our service. Because we do not store your collection data or appraisal photos server-side, there is generally nothing for us to disclose beyond the limited, transient AI-proxy and comps data described above.
Because your collection lives entirely on your device and we keep no server-side copy, you already have full access to it inside the app, and you can correct or delete any item directly in Heirly. Deleting the app removes all locally stored collection data. If you have requested an appraisal, that specific request (including its photos) may still exist in our transient cache for up to 24 hours before it is automatically discarded; you do not need to contact us for this to happen, but you may email us with questions at [email protected].
Heirly is operated in the United States. Any data you send via an appraisal or comps request is processed in the US. If you are located outside the US, by using Heirly's appraisal or comps features you consent to the transfer of that limited data to the US for processing under US law.
We implement reasonable security measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), to protect any data that is sent to our AI proxy. However, no security measure is 100% guaranteed. If you have security concerns, please contact us at [email protected].
Heirly is a general-audience app and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children. Heirly has no accounts, so there is no account-based data collection from any user, child or adult.
We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date above and, if required by law, via an in-app notification.
